This book examines the chronology of space exploration in terms of presidential rhetoric and response, from Eisenhower unveiling his "plan" to Bush "taking us to tomorrow." Krug raises questions about public, political, and space industry attitudes towards the space program and looks for answers in metaphors from presidents' speeches, suggesting that a strong space program depends on our leaders learning to combine visions of "space exploration" and "space use" into motivating metaphors. The appendix presents a chronology in which space exploration events are followed by relevant remarks made by the president in power at the time.
